Description

  • Lacquer + mother of pearl
  • 12 cm, 4 3/4  in.
each of shallow oval form with a flared rim raising from a low foot, the interior finely inlaid in mother-of-pearl and gold foils on a black lacquer ground, centred with a group of archaic vessels, all against an intricate floral diaper ground, encircled by a band of stylised floral stems at the rim, the black-lacquered base inlaid with the characters Yutang yawan (For elegant amusement in the Jade Hall) in seal script within a square

Condition

The dishes are both in very good condition with the exception of some tiny losses to the inlay, light rubbings and flaking to the lacquer on the rims, light crazing to the bases and several short hairline rim cracks.
