The canvas has not been lined and is slightly loose on its stretcher. There is pattern of hairline craquelure throughout and some raised craquelure with small spots of flaking and paint loss in the tree in the upper centre of the composition - this could benefit from consolidation. Some small spots of paint loss are also visible under close inspection in the sky in the upper right corner. Ultra-violet light reveals two circa 4 by 4cm areas of restoration in the grass in the lower left quadrant of the composition (patched on the reverse), strokes of retouching in the aforementioned raised craquelure and some other scattered small spots in the sky. The overall appearance of the work is good. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
