Condition
The support is constructed of three vertically joined planks and is uncradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is dirty with a dulled varnish. There are scattered old, discoloured retouchings throughout, the most significant of which are around the right eye, on the forehead and collar of the sitter. There are some small losses on the upper central margin and along the grain of the wood in the lower right hand corner, above and below the sitter’s hand. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no more recent restoration. Offered in a black and gilt wood frame in good condition.
