Catalogue Note

This image of King Frederick II of Prussia is probably taken from an engraving after the portrait by Antoine Pesne. As an ally to Great Britain during the Seven Years war, he enjoyed a level of popularity and as such the image of the King can be seen on contemporary Worcester porcelain and enamel boxes. Uncommonly found in blue and white it is exceptionally rare to find the king depicted in polychrome delftware; an example in blue and white was sold in these rooms, the Rous Lench collects ion, 1st July 1986, lot 32; the John Philip Kassebaum collects ion, 1st October 1991, lot 105.
