The back plate embossed and chased in typical style  with lions flanking  a shield below canopy, later embossed and chased (circa 1750) with the arms of the prince Bishop of Bamberg, applied base of engraved Régence ornament incorporating the first quartering of the prince bishop’s coat of arms

Catalogue Note

The goldsmith Georg Brenner specialized in religious silver. He worked for both Catholic and Jewish clients as surviving pieces include chalices as well as Thora Shields and Rimmonim. Johann Philipp Anton von und zu Frankenstein was confirmed as prince Bishop of Bamberg by pope Benedict XIV on 19 December 1746.
