Catalogue Note

"You asked if Lawler's work could be called a portrait of the Tremaines as collects ors. I don't think so...Lawler's work relates to certain parts of the collects ion at a certain t.mes in the Tremaines' lives, at a certain cultural moment. In my opinion, Lawler's photographs do not capture a deep truth about the Tremaines. Instead, they capture a deep truth about Lawler."
