Description

  • Porcelain
  • 6.6cm., 2 5/8 in. high
modelled sat on its haunches wearing a basket on its back filled with flowers from which rises its young, it's chained detachable head forming the stopper upon a small mound base painted with flower sprigs and larger spray to the underside, with gilt-dentil border,

In generally good condition. One small flower chipped. Some scattered rubbings to enamels consistent with handling.

Catalogue Note

Kate Foster, op. cit., illustrates an almost identical example from the collects ion Parfumerie Houbigant, Paris. Another from the Property of Fritz Katz was sold at Replica Shoes Parke Bernet, New York, 8th March 1979, lot 51. The model was also adapted as a double-scent bottle; one such example from the Franks collects ion is illustrated by G. E. Bryant, The Chelsea Porcelain Toys, 1925, pl. 5, no. 4 where the present example is also listed along with three others.
