each with a fluted ovoid cylindrical body rising to a waisted neck, each flute painted with vertical panels of birds and butterflies amongst foliage, all below a band of precious objects around the shoulder, the neck decorated with flowering branches, wood base

Provenance

A wedding present to Andrew, 11th Duke of Devonshire (1920-2004) and Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire (1920-2014) from Sir Arthur Horace Penn, GCVO, MC (1886-1960) in 1941.

Condition

One vase with areas of restoration and overpaint to the rim, and an associated 1x0.3cm shallow chip. There are minor chips along the footring. Both vases with minor enamel wear and glaze firing imperfections.
