Painting has been tightly relined and surface has been pressed as a result. under an extremely dirty, discolored old varnish. an old repair, where the surface is now blistering, can be seen in left background, and there is some lifting along upper edge. a very tiny loss at center right edge. craquelure is noticeable in the flesh areas and there are scattered old discolored retouches in flesh areas, especially her chest. also discolored old retouches in dress lower center. darks of the background and hair have sunken and lost some of their definition. examination under UV light is difficult due to the thick old varnish, but many of the old restorations can be seen with naked eye. this painting has not been attended to in a long t.mes , but a cleaning and readdressing the old discolored restorations should improve the appearance.
