Catalogue Note

Sir Winston Churchill (1620-88) was the father of the First Duke of Marlborough. A Royalist in the Civil War, he wrote Divi Britannici, a history of the Kings of England, whilst living in seclusion during the Commonwealth. He entered Parliament after the Restoration and became, like so many of his descendants, an assiduous member of the Commons.
