Condition

The medium has been well preserved and the image remains clear. The vellum is also in good condition. There are, however, very minor areas of surface dirt. Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1660-1744) became one of the most influential women of her generation through her association with Queen Anne. She was married to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), an English soldier and statesman whose career covered the reigns of five monarchs. See lot 205.
