Description
- Sir William Nicholson
- Cat Asleep on a Stool
- pencil
- 18 by 20cm.; 7 by 8in.
- Executed circa 1933-4.
Condition
Pencil on two sheets of paper which have been joined together by the artist. The work is taped into a window mount with tabs at the upper corners. When viewed from the reverse it is possible to see a small piece of tape supporting the joined sheets at the left vertical edge and two small areas of card adhered to the upper corners of the drawing. These appear to be the remainder of the works previous housing.
There are brown areas in the top corners of the sheet which appear to be consistent with the afore mentioned old discoloured adhesive which attached the drawing to a previous mount. Scattered spots of brown foxing are visible throughout the composition. There is a loss to the extreme lower right corner of the sheet and several creases in the surrounding area. Subject to the above the work appears to be in good condition.
The drawing is presented in a book mount and small gilt frame.
