Catalogue Note

The cavetto of the present lot is painted after Partial View of the White Hall at the Winter Palace (1838) by A. Ladurner (1798-1856), now in the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg.  The figure on the right of the composition is said to be Prince P. M. Volkonskii, Russian military commander.
