This work is in overall good condition. This work is unframed. The paint surface appears to be stable and varnished. The painted surface has been built up in certain areas such as the pearls on the dress. The copper printing plate on the reverse is darker than it appears in the printed catalogue. There appears to have been past restoration work, particularly in the black background and in the red curtains, which is visible under raking light. These small, scattered areas have been painted-in but not filled-in. There is a paint loss to the lower left corner, the upper right corner, and a half-inch line of paint loss to the left section of the upper edge of the plate. There is a paint loss that is present half-way down the center of the Virgin’s dress. Under ultraviolet inspection, a varnish is visible. Additionally, in-painting becomes visible in the lower left corner and within the details and handles of the vases in the lower right and lower left quadrants. A concentrated, circular spot of in-painting is present in the lower center quadrant directly above the bottom edge of the plate.
