Condition
The original canvas has been trimmed and mounted onto a strainer. Craquelure is visible throughout; however, the paint layer is stable overall. Small specks of paint loss are scattered throughout the work, particularly near the right eye of the Virgin. A horizontal repair, in the center of the composition, runs the entire length of the canvas. Another horizontal repair, approximately eight-inches in length, is present in the lower center quadrant five-inches above the lower edge. A small indentation in the canvas is present in the lower left quadrant. Frame abrasion is also present along the lower edge. Under ultraviolet inspection, a varnish is visible. In-painting is also visible throughout with the most concentrated areas present along both of the horizontal repairs mentioned above, within the hair of the Virgin and scattered throughout her surrounding halo.
