Description
of oval section, the knop carved in the form of a dragon coiling around a pearl held in his claw, the base dated and signed on four columns in incised running script Dingmao si yue Qiulai fang Ming ('made by Qiu Lai in imitation of the Ming on the 4th month of the dingmao year', corresponding to 1747), above two characters probably reading shi men ('ten doors'), and the seal face crisply carved with two archaistic characters Lei zhou ('islet of thunder'), the smoothly polished stone of deep amber colour with characteristic russet veining
Condition
There is minor surface wear and scratching to the body. The rim of the underside is slightly rubbed down, as expected from lengthy use.
