Attributed to Luca Giordano, called Fa Presto

The original is very slightly pinker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old relining which has not overly flattened the paint surface. The paint surface is secure and in condition, though dirty. Three old, restored damages are visible in the background to the right due to uneveness on the painting's surface; two are upper right and the third lower right. A backward L shaped old restored tear, approx. 15cm. long, is visible in the lower right hand corner. Another old restored tear, approx. 18cm. long, can be seen in the space between St. Sebastian's arms, parallel to his left forearm, due to discolouration of the retouchings to this area. Inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish covering the work. However, it does confirm the aforementioned retouchings and indicates further old retouchings underneath the varnish in the background. St. Sebastian's loincloth has been extensively strengthened, and larger retouchings to his lower left chin, his neck area and his left forearm, as well as strengthening along his right hand side are also highlighted by UV, but otherwise the retouchings to St. Sebastian are few, small and scattered. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame in good condition with some surface stains.
