Description

  • Peter Monamy
  • British Men-of-War in a stiff breeze
  • oil on canvas

Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition. There are some scattered minor surface marks to the canvas edges in the peripheral areas of the painting. Otherwise there is no apparent damage or loss of paint. There would appear to be a thick layer of discoloured varnish and an old uneven craquelure overall. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of the varnish which makes further inspection difficult, but there is evidence of old minor retouching visible in the clouds. FRAME Held in a faux tortoise-shell lacquer wood frame.
