Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been tightly relined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in very good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint. A nice impasto is remains in the hair and the bonnet despite the lining. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals very minor scattered retouching to the bottom most lip of the painted oval, the the sitter's face between her eyes and to her right cheek and in the upper left hand corner to what appears to be an old vertical stetcher bar mark. FRAME Held in a gold painted wood and plaster frame.
