Description

  • Claude-Joseph Vernet
  • Landscape with figures by a river and fishermen pulling nets
  • oil on panel, unframed

Condition

The single flat panel is unframed. The paint surface is stable and under a thick dirty varnish. To the naked eye the painting appears in fair condition though a little worn in areas. Inspection under UV light reveals some retouchings in the clouds upper right and centre, in the darker tones lower left, lower right and lower centre, in the boat lower centre and in the area around the figures lower left. The painting would benefit from a clean and a new varnish.
