Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There are some minor abrasion marks in the upper and lower sections of the canvas, as well as some scuffing to the edges. There is no apparent significant damage or loss of paint, and there is a slightly discoloured old varnish overall.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals minor scattered retouching to the background in the lower section of the painting and strengthening to the dog. There is also one small retouching to the sitters jaw line and strengthening in his hair.
FRAME
Held in a carved and gilded rococo frame.
