Catalogue Note
The portrait here follows that of a painting in the Sao Paolo Museum of Art long considered a self-portrait by Rembrandt but now considered by a follower of Rembrandt (see J. Bruyn et al., A Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings, vol. III, Dordrecht/Boston/London 1989, pp. 633-6, no. C99, reproduced).
