The support appears to consist of two horizontal panels. The support has a slight convex bow. There are two fine splits in the panel running across the centre (as are visible in the catalogue illustration). Each run approximately 20cm. in from the right and left hand margins and there is paint loss along them. No other major damages are apparent. The paint surface is secure and in good condition under a glossy varnish. A fine craquelure runs throughout. The sandy pigments used for the architecture and the grey used in the tiles in the foreground are rather thin. Some retouchings to these areas are visible to the naked eye, but the detail of the work is well-preserved. Inspection under UV light, though impeded by the reflective varnish, does reveal extensive retouchings and strengthenings across the foreground of the painting and along the painting's lower margin. The nave of the church in the background and the floor seem largely untouched. Offered in an ornate gilt wood and plaster frame in good condition, with a few minor losses.
