The flat, stable support consists of one horizontal panel, bevelled on all sides. The paint surface is clean and secure, with the detail, particularly in the foliage, well-preserved. There is some abrasion to the brown pigments used in the foreground and the figures in the middle distance and the brown horse to the left have become transparent. There are a number of surface scratches in a small group in the sky upper left, but otherwise no major damages to the painting are discernible. Inspection under UV light is impeded in parts by reflective varnish, but does reveal scattered retouchings along the upper half of the left hand margin, spot retouchings to the figures and bank lower right and to the right hand tree trunk. A few scattered spot retouchings fluoresce elsewhere but the majority of the painting seems untouched. Offered in a wood, parcel gilt and red velvet frame in fairly good condition, if a little rubbed.
