Condition

Very good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Shallow crack on the proper left side of the face and a short crack on the back. Fine patina, oily in places, nuanced shades of brown.

Catalogue Note

Tout en force, le corps se déploie en une succession de plans inclinés faisant glisser le regard en profondeur, et projetant au premier plan le visage étroit aux traits épannelés. La puissance des formes est accentuée par la profonde patine brun rouge, suintante, de cette figure d'autel. cf. Dapper (2008 : 13) pour une statuette féminine, probablement de la même main.

Turka figure, Burkina Faso

The powerful body of this figure is represented by a series of inclined planes, which draw the eye in to the narrow projecting face. The body's evident sense of strength is highlighted by the sweating deep red-brown patina.  Cf. Dapper (2008: 13) for a female figure, probably carved by the same hand.
