Condition

Good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture. One thin open crack to the rear of the drum. Drum-skin in fine condition. Overall dark patina with pigments, contrasting with the softly worn caramel coloured surface of the handle.

en forme classique de sablier, parfait.mes nt équilibré, orné d'un décor incisé complexe représentant dans la partie inférieure la gueule ouverte d'un crocodile, la poignée très délicat.mes nt sculptée de deux têtes d'oiseaux aux becs enroulés, la membrane en peau de reptile intacte. cf. Meyer (1995 : 197, n° 206) pour un tambour très comparable, et Peltier et Morin (2006 : 336) pour un autre dans les collects ions du musée Barbier-Mueller (n° inv. 4099-34), provenant de la même collects ion.
