Very good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture. The small head in the centre of the bowl can be taken out. Some other light traces of wear, commensurate with the great age of the cup. Fine and varied patina.

Les petites coupes à panse ronde servaient à la cour des royaumes Kuba à mélanger la poudre de twool ou à contenir de l'huile (Cornet in Dapper, : 68). Celle-ci est remarquable. Si l'anse s'orne, de manière classique, d'un masque s'étirant en haut relief, à l'autre extrémité la main s'épanouit sous le réceptacle, comme pour le soutenir. Au cœur de la coupe se dresse une petite tête humaine - très rare. La panse est entièrement ornée d'une frise aux motifs géométriques entrelacés très finement gravés, dont le dessin est superbement mis en valeur par les nuances brun rouge de la patine. cf. étude Bellier, Paris, 1931, pour une coupe comparable.
