La grande rareté de ce masque-heaume repose sur le naturaliste des traits - bien loin de la stylisation caractéristique de l'art Yoruba - et sur la remarquable finesse des modelés. Il se distingue par l'intériorité de l'expression, offerte par la douceur du regard aux yeux mi-clos. La complexité de la coiffe - aboutissant à deux chignons sommitaux -, ajoutée au style naturaliste, à la finesse des parois et à la patine sombre et grumeleuse, placent ce masque à une époque très ancienne de la tradition des masques Yoruba.
