Catalogue Note
A prestige axe, Tami style, Huon Gulf, Papua New Guinea
Emerging in high relief from the angled top, the geoMetricas l features of the face are a striking representation of the mythical being kani. Very fine resonance of different forms, exploiting the angular reliefs of the sculpture and the champlevé motifs, the polychrome decoration and the chevron motif carved on the surface and woven into the binding. The stone axe-head is missing.
