Condition

The canvas has been re-lined. There are no signs of retouching visible under ultraviolet light. This work is in overall very good condition, with fresh, bright colours and strong impasto, and ready to hang. Held in a decorative, gold-painted moulded plaster and wood frame.

Catalogue Note

Painted in 1904, the present and the following work were painted in the Netherlands in the environs of St. Anna and Sluis, where Baum stayed from 1899 to 1906.

A comparable work of 1903 is in the collects ion of the Universitätsmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte, Marburg (see Hitzeroth, 1988, p. 538, no. N 6 v).
