"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Replica Shoes 's. The poplar panel has a central horizontal split which is un-restored, the paint surface is stable. There are some minor paint losses to the surface some of which have been restored, e.g. the cross and the background, and others not. The ochre ground is visible in some areas through the thin paint layer and dark shrinkage cracks dominate in the pale areas. The painting is in an original worn state and would improve with the removal of the discoloured varnish."
