Description

the shallow vessel well-carved as a section of a pine tree, the exterior naturalistically articulated with knots and bark, the laterally oriented branch hugging one side, with one end curling along the interior, incised with detailed gnarled branches issuing clustered needles, the brown-color wood varying from a dark to reddish tone, Japanese wood box (2)

Condition

In good overall condition with minor surface scratches to the interior from use. Ink residue visible to the interior and part of the mouth. One crack to the end of the lateral branch, which is stable and does not appear to have been reglued. The cover of the box is slightly warped.
