Description

the thirty-two plate russet iron hoshi-bachi helmet with a simple tehen kanamono, the red-lacquered fukigaeshi (blow back) with gold lacquer decoration of myoga (ginger) mon (family crest), fitted with black lacquer mabizashi (visor) and red-lacquered shiroko (neck guards) of kiritsuke kozane, the red-lacquered domaru (round cuirass) of kiritsuke kozane, en suite, fitted with seven-stage kusazuri (hip guards)

Condition

Helmet - bowl - has dry rust on lower section but consistent with its age. The peak (mabizashi) lost its lacquer (approx. 8mm. x 1.2 cm.) and blow backs red lacquer is crackled and both lost lacquer of about 2 x 1/2in. area. The bottom plate of shikoro has numerous age cracks Cuirass - there are some minor lacquer losses to the tip of kozane (plates) and there are lacquere losses to shoulder strips (1 x 1/2in.) and losses around the edge of the left arm.
