Description
including a sixty-two plate hoshi-sujibachi russet iron helmet, four-stage tehen kanamono, the lacquered iron mabizashi (visor) fitted with four-stage gold lacquer shikoro (neck guard) of kiritsuke-kozane, the fukigaeshi (blow back) with a dai character mon (family crest) and copper nawa fukurin, the sides of the helmet with later wood lacquered horns (wakidate) simulating gamahada (frog skin), the Nara russet iron mempo (half mask) with silver lacquer moustache decoration and gilt teeth, a nimai (two piece) okegawa do (cuirass) in three various lacquers, fitted with seven-stage kusazuri (hip guards), a pair of hyotan gote (arm guards) and chu-sode (medium shoulder guards), Iyo black lacquer haidate (thigh guards) and a pair of shino suneate (shin guards)
Condition
Helmet - The thick lacquer on peak had age crackles and very tiny pieces are missing (2 places of 1 x 2mm. approx). The neck guard gold lacquer is rubbed in places, the horns are later addition.
Mask - Think russet lacquer has slight losses to the right ear and (1cm. x 8mm. and a chip of 2 x 2mm.) both ears have cracks. There is a slight chip to the tip of the chin.
Cuirass russet colored lacquer has old crackles (please see illustration)
Arm guards - fairly good but there are minor losses on black lacquer on hands
High guards - there are slight scratches on the lacquer but good condition
Gold lacquer on kusazuri, shoulder guards and mask are rubbed in places
Shin guards - slight lacquer losses on the strips and some needs to be sewn but good condition.
