Catalogue Note
Such models of flowering and fruiting plants set within jardinieres were being produced by the middle of the 18th century, as may be seen from an entry from a tribute list of 1747 to the Qianlong emperor, "Yue Xun, Provincial Governor of Guangdong presented four pairs of ivory potted landscapes" (Tributes from Guangdong to the Qing Court, Hong Kong, 1987, p. 133). For 18th century examples of hardstone models of fruits and flowers in jardinieres, see ibid, nos. 58-61, pp. 90, 91.
