No other vase of this unusual form appears to have been published. One related example also decorated with the 'Three Friends of Winter', of bottle vase form, is illustrated in Hugh Moss, 'Enamelled Glass Wares of the Kü Yüeh Hsüan Group', The International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society Journal, June 1978, fig. 5. Another rare ovoid enameled glass bottle painted with prunus and bamboo amid rockwork, was sold in these rooms, 26th March 1996, lot 108. A rare enameled glass 'phoenix' vase was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 2nd May 1995, lot 203; again on 4th November 1997, lot 1246; and again on 10th April 2006, lot 1818.
The inscription on the box can be translated as: 'Enameled glass vase in the shape of a gourd painted with plum tree and bamboo in the Guyuexuan style of the Qianlong period. In the collects ion of the Youzhou Studio.'
