Description
the finely carved deity seated in rajalilasana, her hands resting on the raised right knee, one holding prayer beads with attached tassel, the other bearing a sutra scroll, draped in loose cascading robes and hood incised with cloud decoration, her oval face set with a downcast gaze, below a high chignon and diadem, the stone of a greenish-white color with red inclusions, her features and garment heightened with black and red pigment, with fitted gilt-wood multi-tiered lotus throne and mandorla, all displayed inside a Japanese black zushi shrine, Tempo era, the interior painted gold, with gilt.mes

Condition
The Guanyin is in good condition with some nicks to her garment, the longest 5/8 inches long. The shrine appears to have been repainted gold to the inside, as well as the mandorla. Some shrinkage to the black paint on the exterior. It would have originally held a different religious deity.
The inscription on the bottom of the box mentions Tempo era, 7th year (1837), Kyoto, made for a priest.
