Catalogue Note

The size of this jardiniere is unusually large for its type. Compare two smaller vessels decorated with similar subject matter, one sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 5th December 1979, lot 961; the other in these rooms, 29th October 1980, lot 57. A heptagonal jardiniere, with a Yongzheng incised seal mark and of the period, painted with floral vignettes in the famille rose palette, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28th October 2002, lot 609.

Compare also the depiction of the hibiscus and begonia on the present jardiniere with those found on porcelain plaques set into the back of a throne, attributed to the Qianlong period, in the Qing Court collects ion, Beijing, illustrated in Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (II). The Complete collects ion of the Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 2002, no. 6, pp. 10-11.
