Chowdhury draws imagery from a group of sketch books that he uses as his personal reference library, he constantly reworks the same image through a process of tight cross-hatching, adding texture, form and volume, while simultaneously adding colour.  ‘Chowdhury’s seemingly out of control outlines that enclose mottled areas of smouldering flesh etched in a spidery networks of cross hatched lines and his bodies that bloat and sag as if some genetic code within them has gone mad, are not images that are easy to forget.’ (Kapoor, 1995, p.16.)
