Catalogue Note
This work is a typical example of an early Bengal oil painting from the beginning of the twentieth century. Early Bengal oils were usually left unsigned by the artists who were either European painters working in India or Indian miniature artists working with oil in the European manner. The current lot depicts the story of Lord Krishna being fed by his mother Yashodha. They are depicted at dusk in the jungle encircled by deities and their vehicles. The story reveals that when Lord Krishna opens his mouth one will see the whole universe inside.
