Condition

Colours: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is slightly brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There are a few minor rub marks in places along the lower extreme edge. Each corner is slightly rubbed and the lower left corner has associated paper skinning. There is a tiny pinhole to the left of the centre of the work approx 7 cm up from the lower edge and another tiny pinhole to the left wing of the standing bird-figure in the upper left quadrant. Small rub marks are visible in places to the right extreme edge, left extreme edge, and to the centre of the upper extreme edge and there are two light horizontal rub marks to just above the lower right corner. There is a tiny paint loss to the black shape above the 'A' in the lower right quadrant and some tiny spots of media lifting to the right of the birdfigure's beak. Drying bubbles intrinsic to the artist's media are visible to thicker passages of gouache throughout the work and there are a few scattered tiny matrices of drying cracks, predominantly in an area to the right of the bird-figure where the paint is lifting in places. Some surface dirt is adhering to spots of what appears to be a slightly tacky varnish applied over the black paint in places, original to the work's execution.
