Catalogue Note

The decoration to the top of the present table has close affinities with furniture associated with the Royal cabinet-maker John Cobb (1715-1778).  In particular the oval panel of floral marquetry epitomises his inlaid designs and can be seen in other pieces attributed to Cobb including a commode formerly in the Leverhulme collects ion, illustrated in Lucy Wood , The Lady Lever Art Gallery, Catalogue of Commodes, 1994, p.95, pl. 86.
