Alvar Gonzalez-Palacios, Il Mobile in Liguria, Genova, 1996, illustrates a virtually identical console table, probably the pair to the present piece, page 153, pl. 179 (already in the Castle of Arenzano, Genoa) and again ill. in G. Wannenes, Mobili d' Italia, Milano, 1984, page 128.
The same author, op. cit., illustrates two other Genoese console tables with winged sphinxes resting on legs derived from earlier French models, distinctively carved with strapwork in low relief, a motif which re-appears on other recorded examples of Genoese consoles of the same period.
