S otheby’s is pleased to present Madeline and More: The Whimsical World of Ludwig Bemelmans, a charming group of paintings, illustrations and sketches by the beloved artist Ludwig Bemelmans. The sale features a selection of works related to the artist’s t.mes less Madeline series along with illustrations for some of his lesser known publications including The High World, Marina and Parsley. This thoughtfully assembled group originally belonged to a private collects or who was close friends with Bemelmans and acquired many works directly from the artist. We are honored to offer the collects ion on behalf of his family and pay tribute to their extraordinary friendship.
