This film was written, directed, produced and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen. The cast includes John Getz, Frances McDormand, Dan Hedaya and M. Emmet Walsh. The film tells the story of the owner of a small town Texas bar (Julian Marty, played by Dan Hedaya) who finds out that one of his bartenders, Ray (John Getz), is having an affair with his wife Abby (Frances McDormand). Whilst Ray and Abby plan their future life together, Marty has hired an unscrupulous private detective to murder them and get rid of their bodies. This film marked the directorial debut of the Coen Brothers, and also the feature film debut of Frances McDormand. Frances McDormand and Joel Coen married the same year as the film's release.
