This work depicts Félicia Mallet in the role of Pierrot, in a pantomime called L'Enfant prodigue staged in Paris held between the years 1891-1892. Mallet was a French comedian, singer and pantomime actress. Vuillard also depicted the actress on the frontispiece of the play L'Enfant prodigue, and there is another ink drawing kept at the Musée D'Orsay, underlining the artist's early interest in theatre. Mallet is most identifiable by her large, wide eyes, fixing her gaze on us, the viewer.
