The present lot exemplifies the refined artistry of the Cizhou potting tradition. While earlier examples from northern folk kilns display more pragmatic production methods, this piece reveals a mastery of mature Cizhou ware aesthetics. Its fluid, uninterrupted glaze coverage and exceptionally balanced silhouette distinguish it as a masterpiece from the kiln, far surpassing routine production.
Compare a Cizhou-type white-glazed meiping, Northern Song-Jin dynasty, the Handan Cultural Relics Preservation Institute, though its glaze does not extend to the base, which is illustrated in Complete Collection of Ceramics Unearthed in China, Beijing, vol. 3, 2008, no. 171.
