of generous proportions, comprising five similarly carved panels: a removable front, three sides and a hinged cover, each masterfully depicting a foliate-shaped medallion enclosing a phoenix and a luan chasing each other amidst peony blossoms, the medallion set on a ground of further mythical birds at each corner amidst peony, chrysanthemum, and camellia blooms, all within a key-fret board, the interior and base lacquered in black
