“Big Steve” Parish: “This is one we picked up in the 1980s or 1990s because it was vintage and it was more of a collector’s item for the studio than anything else.” 

While the Dead were at the vanguard of sound, and made use of all available technology throughout their career, they were also early collectors of what was becoming “vintage.”
