At the 2011 Basel Fair, Patek Philippe revitalized its highly collectible line of perpetual calendar chronographs with the introduction of reference 5270, succeeding the beloved 5970. The debut of this model marked a significant milestone in the brand’s history, as it was the first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch to feature a completely in-house designed and manufactured movement. This development signaled the end of Patek Philippe’s reliance on modified third-party calibers.
In addition to its technical innovation, the reference also introduced a refined dial layout. The leap year indicator was repositioned from within the subdial to a more legible aperture between the 4 and 5 o’clock markers, while a new day/night indicator was symmetrically placed between 7 and 8 o’clock.
A few years after its release, Patek Philippe updated the design with two new variations: one featuring a silvered opaline dial (ref. 5270G-013) and another with a striking blue sunburst dial (ref. 5270G-014). The revised dial incorporated a tachymeter scale along the perimeter and a slightly smaller signature, echoing the aesthetics of the brand’s revered vintage chronographs.
The present example, reference 5270G-013, offered directly from the original owner, is housed in a white gold case and paired with a silvered dial. It is accompanied by its full suite of accessories, including the Certificate of Origin dated 2014, a sealed second solid caseback, and a sealed setting pin.
